FAQ

Psychotherapy (or counseling) is an interpersonal, relational intervention used by a trained psychotherapist to help clients deal and solve their life problems. It is a process that involves increasing the client’s sense of well-being by reducing discomfort related to their symptoms. The goal of psychotherapy is to improve the
mental health of a client or to improve the relationship of a couple or a family.

Any individual, couple or family who has been unable to resolve their conflicts, find relief for their symptoms and stresses, or who are dealing with unpredictable life events may benefit from counseling.

The first session is called the initial assessment and is usually longer than the sessions that follow. It is the moment when the therapist will gather thorough background information. This is also when the therapist will explain the therapeutic process, explain limits of confidentiality and discuss fees and scheduling of sessions.

For the majority of clients, therapy usually occurs once a week; however, in some cases, your therapist may recommend more frequent sessions.  This process is discussed and arranged between you and your therapist, whenever appropriate and needed.

It varies depending on what brought a client to therapy in the first place.  It also depends on the client’s goals, and the symptoms he, she or they may present.  Since therapy is an interactive process, client’s engagement and commitment to the therapeutic process also influences the duration of therapy.

Think about yourself in a dark room.  The therapist will be the light to guide you to the door, where you will find light.  This is exactly what happens in therapy.  Clients express ideas, thoughts, concerns, ask questions, think out loud, complain, etc.  The therapist will listen, talk back, reflect, contain, recommend, support and help you find the best solution for your struggles.  You are the ultimate expert on yourself.  The therapist, though, will listen and pay attention to what you currently has been unable to.  There may also be reading, writing and playing involved.

During your first session, pricing will be discussed and arranged between client and therapist.  Clients may ask questions related to price as well as health insurance carrier benefits.  Therapists usually have a set fee; however pricing may be negotiable.

Mediation is an informal and confidential process of intervention, facilitation and problem solving whereby a neutral third party with no decision making power facilitates discussions between disputing parties to voluntarily bring about the dispute’s resolution.  The mediator may provide information and options, but the participants make the final decisions.

Whenever two or more parties cannot agree on a resolution to a dispute, whether it is over assets or liabilities.

It all depends on the nature of the dispute.  Usually it varies from 2-6 hours, to several weeks.

When parents lose custody of their child(ren), and it is either mandated by a court order, or recommended by a professional, or attorney, such parent(s) will have supervised, structured and time limited visitation with the children, under the monitoring of a licensed mental health professional.

They usually cost $100.00 dollars per hour, with a minimum of 1 hours per visit.
