Anita Ribeiro-Blanchard, LMHC

I am a licensed psychotherapist with 27 years of experience treating children, adolescents and adults in individual and family therapy. I have treated a wide range of psychological problems, such as depression, anxiety, attention deficit and hyperactivity, panic attack, relationship conflict, low self-esteem, self-harming, trauma and sexual abuse, grief, bulimia and anorexia, obsessive compulsive behaviors, problems arising from single parenthood, etc. I specialize in helping people understand and take control of psychosomatic symptoms that interfere with normal functioning, such as insomnia, headaches, nightmares, over-eating and other eating issues, polycystic ovaries, lack of sexual drive or excessive drive, fibromyalgia, compulsions, stress, and other physical symptoms that may affect a person’s wellbeing.

I graduated as a clinical psychologist in 1982 at Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Sao Paulo, and worked in private practice for nine years in Brazil. During that period, I studied Somatic Psychotherapy at Post-Graduate level at the Instituto Sedes Sapientiae in Sao Paulo. Later, I received the Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counselling from Nova Southeastern University and worked as a psychotherapist in private practice in Fort Lauderdale and also in several non-profit organizations. From 2008 to 2011, I had the opportunity to work in England as a specialist in trauma at the Oxford Stress and Trauma Center and for the National Health System of the UK. I work in English, Portuguese and Spanish languages. I also offer supervision for interns and psychotherapists.

In all my years of practice, I have kept great enthusiasm for my work, and have felt privileged for the opportunity to participate in another person’s life in such a meaningful way. My work reflects this enthusiasm in the sense that I look for resilience, strengths, and potential in those I meet. In my perspective, therapy is a process of achieving greater self-knowledge and understanding, and accessing inner and outer resources to overcome difficulties, conflicts and problems.
